New Years Backpack and Spam Fest

Trip Information

We began this tradition in 1993, and haven't done one since 1999.  It started out with Jeff Crouch (92) inviting us to join him, and his friend Jim, on a New Years backpack to Point Reyes National Seashore.  Jim had brought along a can of Spam and we fried it up for a dinner treat.  We even found some other Spam lovers to share with.
I propose that we meet, as we are able, on Friday, December 31, at the Bear Valley trailhead.  I will plan on being there about Noon.  If you come later just hike on up.  I'll be getting a Friday campsite permit for Sky Camp.  Our Saturday camp will be at Glen Camp.  On Sunday we will hike out to Bear Valley and have lunch in Point Reyes Station.  The first day's hike is 3 miles.  The second day is 5.8 miles.  The hike out is 4.6 miles.  All on well marked trails.  There is water available at both Sky and Glen Camps.
Note: Spam now comes is various flavors and may be found in foil packages of single servings.  Just right for backpacking, and no heavy can to carry out.
Also Note: There is a fee for Point Reyes Camping Permits.  We will split the cost between attendees.
THIS TRIP WILL BE WEATHER DEPENDANT.  If you intend to join us for this hike you MUST confirm your attendance with a phone call or email.  I'll be checking the weather forecast daily for the two weeks preceding this trip, and will keep you informed of changes.
I'll be posting more information on this hike.
